  PRELUDE
  WELCOME, SILENT PRAYER, & PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP

Boldly Approaching Our God
  INVOCATION
*CALL TO WORSHIP (responsively)
     Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
     Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth.
Remember that the Lord is God, the one who made us,
the one who holds us, the one who breathes within us,
     Let us come into God’s presence with thanksgiving
for God’s steadfast love and faithfulness endure forever,
to all generations.
Amen.
*HYMN OF PRAISE #20                                   Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee
  PRAYER OF CONFESSION (responsively)
Father in heaven, have mercy on us. We are sinful, prideful, selfish   people. We spend so much time looking out for ourselves, trampling on the people closest to us as a result. We have broken our relationships with friends, with our children, with our spouses. Oh, how desperately we need a Savior!
Break our hearts and teach them how to love again. Help us not to fear love, but to love courageously. Forgive us for failing. Thank you for picking us up and restoring us. We trust you and love you. In your holy name.  Amen.
  ASSURANCE OF PARDON (responsively)
Here is good news:
Christ Jesus came that we might have life, life in all its fullness: to forgive us in our failure, to accept us as we are, to set us free from the power of evil, to lead us into new life.
Thanks be to God!
*HYMN #315 (verses 1 & 4)                                Break Thou the Bread of Life
CHILDREN’S PRAYER OF BLESSING
Lord Jesus, bless our children with the certain knowledge that you are their greatest treasure, and that you are coming again.  Help us as we teach them to be your faithful, watchful servants, ready to be received into your eternal glory.
(Children Dismissed to Sunday School)

~A NOTE OF PRAISE  ~
Thursday afternoon, October 11, 19 Hope College Reformed Church members on a week's tour of New York City and state Reformed churches visited KRC. They were warm, friendly, and so grateful to visit our church, and their visit was a blessing.  Jane Deane conducted a tour, and I filled them in on many other aspects of our church and community. They bought several copies of our history book, "Kinderhook Reformed Church – 300 Years of Faith and Community" and expressed an interest in purchasing copies of our commemorative cookbook, "Flavors."  Praise God for this opportunity to share the rich history and spiritual mission of our House of Worship with this group, and please keep them in your prayers as they continue their travels.
                                                                                      IHN, Dawn Van Buren

~ FOND MEMORIES OF DELIVERING ANGEL TREE GIFTS ~

     Back in the early days of Angel Tree, Chuck Colson, founder of Prison Fellowship, and his wife often personally delivered Christmas presents. One night, they discovered their directions led them to a housing project in a run-down and poorly-lit neighborhood.  The Colsons knocked on the door and found a little boy all alone.  His father was in prison and his mother was at work.  “The boy’s eyes brightened as he saw the presents in our arms,” Chuck recalled.  “The little guy pulled us into his living room.  There was nothing but a chair, an old sofa with stuffing exposed, and a tree leaning haphazardly against the wall.”
     “What’s your name?”  Chuck asked.
     “Emmanuel,” he replied.
     Chuck opened his Bible to the Gospel of Matthew and said to Emmanuel, “Do you know what your name means?  It means ‘God with us’ !”  When his mother arrived soon after, Emmanuel ran to her and hugged her around the legs.  “Mommy, mommy!” he cried, “God is with us!”
     As Chuck later recalled, “Even in that seemingly-hopeless, drug-infested housing project, this apartment had become an island of joy and hope.  Once again, Jesus had become real.”
~~~~~~~
THE KRC FAMILY WILL AGAIN BE PARTICIPATING IN PRISON FELLOWSHIP’S ANGEL TREE PROGRAM WHICH PROVIDES CHRISTMAS GIFTS TO THE CHILDREN OF PRISONERS.  WATCH FOR DETAILS IN THE COMING WEEKS.
