  God's Greeting

  Drawing Near to God

Call to Worship (Responsive)  Adapted from Psalm 90

O God, you have been our dwelling place.

Let us dwell in you again and again.

You are God from everlasting to everlasting and belong the reign of all worlds.

Help us glimpse your glory and love for us as washed children

       because of the cross.

Indeed, days and seasons come and go.

But you, O Lord, remain the same now and forever more.

Grant us now wise and worshiping hearts as we come closer to you.

*Hymn of Thanks #374                                                                Now Thank We All Our God

Call to Confession  1 John 1:6-7

“If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.”

  Prayer of Confession (Unison)

Merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart and soul and mind and strength and neither have we loved our neighbors as ourselves. In your mercy, forgive what we have been, help us amend what we are, and direct what we shall be, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name.

Assurance of Pardon (Responsive)  1 Peter 2:24

Here the Good News: “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”

       Thanks be to God. Amen.

Coming before God’s Open Word

Children's Message and Prayer of Blessing (Unison)

Father God, assure our children that heaven, earth, and all the powers of nature and humankind are controlled by your command. Bless them with restful, confident hope as they learn to trust and praise you for their spiritual and physical well-being, self-worth, relationships, educational progress, and life’s work.   Amen.

  Prayer for Illumination

  Scripture Reading                                                                                     Luke 12:4-7 (p. 737)

Message                                                                                            “Fear Like You Know It!”

  Offertory Prayer (Unison)

Heavenly Father, forgive us for being so anxious about so many things and not spending more time listening to you. Help us to turn to you and learn from you every day. Help us to overcome our past failures; to see and experience your provisions in our lives; and to become faithful givers to your work. Amen.
