Order of Worship

   PRELUDE
WELCOME, SILENT PRAYER, and PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP
  VOTUM and GOD’S GREETING

God’s Children’s Approach

  CALL TO WORSHIP  (Responsive)
The King of Glory comes, the nation rejoices!
Open the gates before him, lift up your voices!
Who is the King of Glory; what shall we call him?
He is Emmanuel, the promised of ages.
Enter in, Lord of our life.
Stir in us the old excitement. Receive our praise.
We who worship here want to help clear your way into all the world.
*SONG OF PRAISE AND PRAYER                                            A Double Portion
CALL TO CONFESSION  Galatians 5:22-26  (Holman Christian Standard Bible)                                                                                Now the works of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, moral impurity, promiscuity, idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and anything similar, about which I tell you in advance—as I told you before—that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law.
PRAYER OF CONFESSION (Responsive) Based on Psalm 106
Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on us!
Life-giving Spirit and eternal God, on this day of Pentecost,
we confess we have not always been open and receptive of you.
Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on us!
Your Spirit surrounds and empowers us,
yet we are so very careful and cautious. Help us now, more than ever,
to open our lives to your Holy Spirit and to live courageously.
Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on us!
Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on me! Amen.

  ASSURANCE OF PARDON  (Responsive)
The Christ who taught us how to live continues to forgive us - not once, but over and over again. The mercy of the Lord, the salvation of the Son, and the availability of the Holy Spirit are everlasting. Friends, proclaim and believe the Good News of the gospel.
In Jesus Christ we are forgiven, and by the Spirit we are empowered to live new lives. Hallelujah, Amen!
*PRAISE SONGS                         Amazing Love
Chorus:  Amazing love, amazing love, I can’t get enough of your amazing love.
Amazing love, amazing love, it blows me away, your amazing love.

Your love is higher than the mountains, amazing love,
Deeper than the sea, amazing love,
Wider than the universe, amazing love
And it’s reaching out to me, amazing love.

               Chorus

Your love is warm like the summer sun, amazing love
Bright like autumn leaves, amazing love
Pure as the winter snow, amazing love
It all springs back to me, amazing love

               Chorus

You Are My All in All
You are my strength when I am weak,
You are the treasure that I seek, you are my all in all.
Seeking you as a precious jewel,
Lord, to give up I’d be a fool, you are my all in all.

Chorus:  Jesus, Lamb of God, worthy is your name,
Jesus, Lamb of God, worthy is your name.

Taking my sin, my cross, my shame
Rising again I bless your name, you are my all in all.
When I fall down, you pick me up,
When I am dry you fill my cup, you are my all in all.

  Chorus
God’s Opened Word

*DOXOLOGY and OFFERTORY PRAYER  (Unison)
Lord God, as the Spirit moves within and around us, we are moved in response. Part of that response is to offer these gifts of time, talent, and treasure. May the gifts and the givers be ways in which your love and hope are spread.  Amen.
ANNOUNCEMENTS CONCERNING THE FAMILY OF GOD
PASTORAL PRAYER and THE LORD’S PRAYER
*HYMN                                   There Is a Redeemer
There is a redeemer, Jesus, God’s own Son,
Precious Lamb of God, Messiah, Holy one!
Jesus my redeemer, name above all names,
Precious Lamb of God, Messiah, oh, for sinners slain.

Thank you, O my Father, for giving us your Son,
And we need your Spirit ‘til, the work on earth is done.

When I stand in glory, I will see his face,
And there I’ll serve my King forever, in that holy place.

Thank you, O my Father, for giving us your Son
And we need your Spirit ‘til, the work on earth is done.

There is a redeemer, Jesus God’s own Son,
Precious Lamb of God, Messiah, Holy One.

Thank you, O my Father, for giving us your Son,
And leaving your Spirit ‘til, the work on earth is done.
The work on earth is done, the work on earth is done.

*BENEDICTION and RESPONSE HYMN – We Love You Lord
We love you Lord, you are amazing.
We love you Lord, for all that you are.
We love you Lord, walk right beside us.
Protect us and guide us, til we meet again.
  POSTLUDE

PLEASE NOTE: Consistory has accepted the nomination of Dave Ennis
to serve the 6 months remaining in Ann VanBuren’s term as Elder.

Immediately after Worship today, a brunch will be served followed by a congregational meeting to discuss starting time for Worship and hiring a full-time organist; present ministry updates, and elect an elder to Consistory.  Please plan to attend and be a part of these activities.

Please pick up your family’s copy of FOCUS ON THE FAMILY from the back table today.  This easy-to-read publication features Bible-based articles of good counsel and practical advice especially relevant to families raising children or grandchildren, along with other features of general interest.  A new edition will be available to you each month.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
Putting the Emphases where It Belongs!
As flooding and severe weather continues and tornadoes cause destruction in the Southern and Midwestern United States, I hear of more and more people who fear the end of the world is at hand. Frankly, being ready for the end of the world that is at hand because God says so, and fearing that the end of the world is at hand and rushing around selling all you possessions and giving up your children’s collage funds, are two very different things.  The Bible is clear about two things in this regard. Plainly said, He is coming and no one knows when He is coming. For believers this is good news, and we need not fear the coming of the Lord.  Fearing the Lord, not the coming of the Lord, is the beginning of wisdom Proverbs 9:10 says.
When reading Luke 21:25-28, the alarmist emphasizes verses 25-26. Prophets emerge from everywhere, capturing all who are willing to listen. They preach destruction, fuel fear, and call it evangelism. The believer focuses on verses 27-28, and with a glad heart awaits the glory of God, stands up, and with eyes on high prays, Maranatha, “Come Lord Jesus, Come.” – 1 Corinthians 16:22, Philippians 4:5, and Revelation 22:20.
(Continued on next page.)

Towards the end of the month we will be hearing the Word of God on this topic, so . . . be ready for it. Before we get to the End-of-the-World sermon, we will be celebrating Ascension Day, Pentecost, and Father’s Day.
Christians observe Christ’s ascension on Ascension Day, which this year will be on June 2. KRC will celebrate Christ’s ascension during our worship time on June 5th.  Our sermon schedule for June looks as follows.
            Today          John 7:37-39         Pentecost
            June 19       Deuteronomy 6:4-9    Father’s Day
June 26       Matthew 24:36-51      The End of the World is Nigh
Our congregational meeting, pancake breakfast, plant swap, and bake sale activities will also be taking place this month, and we hope you will be able to join us for all these events. As always, and especially with the upcoming summer vacation, you are asked to be faithful, if possible, with your tithing even for those Sundays that you cannot make it to church.
I would like to leave you with the following three scriptures for this month: First, in the light of the doomsday prophet’s messages, Isaiah 31:13, “For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, “Fear not, I am the one who helps you.” and 1 Corinthians 14:33, “For God is not a God of confusion but of peace.” Secondly, in the light of the pain and annihilation caused by nature and natural phenomena in the Heartland of our nation.  Romans 8:35 and 38-39, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? . . . For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
I pray that, as we grow together in Christ and His guidance through the Holy Spirit, and as we gladly await His second coming, we will glorify Him in all we do.
                                                                                          Pastor Rudy

~“SHARE THE WOOL,” A PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY~

Share the Wool has been active at St. Paul’s Church, Kinderhook, since October of 2009.  During that time we have made upwards of 60 shawls, throws, and scarves to be given to people who are ill; to people who have a family member who is very ill or has recently died; to those leaving home for school or who are off to other places and ventures; to new mothers and their babies; and to those celebrating other joyful times and events.
We have people from four area churches working on projects: St. Luke’s (Valatie), St. Paul’s, St. John the Evangelist (Stockport), and Kinderhook Reformed.  We meet Tuesday mornings from 10:30 to 12:30 at the McNary Center, Classroom 3, and enjoy each other’s company as we pray and work on our various projects.  If someone is not able to come every week, they can work at home.  Many of us work at home as well.
All of our yarn, gift bags and paper, storage bags, and some crochet hooks and knitting needles have been donated by many people.  Last Christmas we sent 35 scarves, made mostly by Christine, to children at her son’s school in Columbus, Ohio.  The students are placed by the court in this school and have had difficult lives so far.  They were extremely appreciative of the scarves.  Many of the people who have been given one of our gifts have written to thank us and express their gratitude.  These responses remind us of our blessings, too, and inspire us to work harder to create more of these items.
We would welcome more participants in our venture.  We will teach you how to knit or crochet if you don’t know how, and we will help you recall the skill if you haven’t used it in a while.  So if you’d like to join us, we’d be glad to have you.  If you have any questions or would like to join us, please email or phone any of our members.
