Call to Worship (Responsive)  Based on Psalm 103

Come, let us bless the Lord! For the Lord is like a father to his children,

compassionate and merciful, filled with endless love.

He forgives our sins, and heals the sickness inside us;

he surrounds us with love and mercy and fills our lives with good things!

Let’s worship God together!

Allowing God to Shape Us

  Call to Confession

Our faith calls us to break down walls and to live our lives courageously so that others might know who we are by our love. For the times when we have been less than faithful disciples, we offer now our prayer:

  Prayer of Confession (Unison)

O God, we confess that we would like the road map of our life laid out before us. We want to know where we are going. Any unexpected twists and turns so easily disconcerts us from you. When we hear you calling us to a task we are prone to make excuses. Lord, forgive our reliance on ourselves and our lack of trust in you. Forgive our willful turning away from your will for our lives and the refusal to hear and believe your assurances for our journey. Forgive Lord, all that is past, and free us to a new and living faith in you, through Christ our risen Lord. Amen

  Assurance of Pardon  (Responsive)

Our God is a God of love and mercy, who allows us always to begin again. By God's grace, we are forgiven to walk in newness of life.

       Thanks be to God. Amen.

Duet  Ron Moore and Deborah Spaulding                                     I Need Thee Every Hour

Coming before God’s Open Word

  Prayer for Illumination

  Scripture                                                                                      1 Samuel 17:23-27 (p. 203)

Message                                                              “Off to Battle with Shepherd-Weapons!”

 [Moment of Silent Reflection]

Silent Prayer for Those Seeking to Accept Christ as Their Savior:

"Dear Jesus, I confess that I'm a sinner, and I admit that I am not right with you. I repent and ask your forgiveness.  I believe that you died on the cross to take my punishment and to pay the price for my offences.  I believe that you rose from death to give me new life. Wash me clean, Jesus, from all sin, shame, and guilt, and come into my heart as my Lord and Savior.  In your name I pray.  Amen."

  Prayer of Thanks

    Celebrating God

  Offering and Offertory

  Offertory Prayer

You have blessed us with every good gift, generous God. Our hearts overflow with joy and love for the privilege of walking with you and being called your own. Receive these gifts, we pray, as our faithful and grateful response to your gifts of grace and mercy in our lives. Amen.

  Father’s Day Litany  (Responsive)

Our relationships with our fathers are complicated.

For some of us, our father's love is like God's love—

too deep, too long, too wide, too strong to measure.

Some of our dads are here; some were never here.

For some of us, God's love fills in the empty spaces our fathers left behind.

All of us are shaped by the relationship or lack of relationship with our fathers.

On this day when we remember

what it means to have a father or be a father,

we recognize the importance of fathers in our communities.

We pledge, as a congregation, to love and nurture the fathers among us

so that they will manifest the love of God in all that they do. Amen.

*Hymn of Exhortation #748                                                          Onward Christian Soldiers

*Benediction, Blessing, and Response Hymn    My Friends May You Grow in Grace

My friends, may you grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior.

My friends, may you grow in grace, and in the knowledge of Jesus Christ.

To God be the glory, now and forever, now and forever, amen. (2x)
