DRAWING NEARER TO GOD

Call to Worship (Responsive)  Based on Psalm 95:6

As we come into the house of the LORD today, let us do so with reverence.

Let us recognize the greatness and glory of the one we worship.

Let us celebrate that we can come just as we are,

and yet, let us come before him with humility for He is our Maker.

For we know, it is no small thing to worship the LORD our God.

Let us sing songs of praise and worship Him with gratitude and awe.

*Hymn of Praise #72   (All 3 verses)                                                 To God Be the Glory

TURNING OUR HEARTS TO GOD

  Call to Confession

From the very beginning of our history, we have sought to hide our disobedience from God. It is impossible, a futile task. But it is also an unnecessary one — for the God who knows our sins and shortcomings is the God who is at work, seeking us out, reconciling the whole world through Jesus Christ. Let us confess our sin before God.

Prayer of Confession (Unison)

Loving God, you call us out of darkness and into your marvelous light. But we crouch in the shadows, ashamed of the wrong we have done, and of the good we have neglected to do. Forgive Us Lord!  We have been timid disciples, afraid of putting our lives on the line for the good of your reign on earth. Forgive Us Lord!  We conceal our true selves from one another, hiding behind the masks of our own power and competence. Forgive Us Lord!

[Moment of Silent Confession]

Reconciling Lord, call us back into relationship with you.

Equip us for relationships of integrity — in our families, in our church community, and in the world you love. We pray in the name of Jesus, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and acknowledging our need for the love of God. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon (Responsive)

In the words of Paul, the gifts of God are irrevocable.

We have been disobedient, but God shows us mercy.

All have been imprisoned, so that God might be gracious to all.

Jesus promised release to the captives.

He died on the cross, but not even the grave could hold him captive.

He rose again, triumphing over any imprisonment this world could devise.

Friends, believe the Good News of the gospel!

In Jesus Christ we are forgiven and freed.

     Alleluia! Amen.

Children’s Message, Presentation of New Bibles, and Blessing (Unison)

All-knowing God, preserve these children from the sins of selfishness and greed.  Lead them into holy and virtuous lives of love, humble service, and generosity to you, to the work of your Kingdom, and to others. Amen.

~THANK YOU TO OLD DUTCH & SUCH BAZAAR / CRAFTS FAIR  VOLUNTEERS~

Many thanks to all those who helped to make yesterday’s Old Dutch & Such Bazaar / Crafts Fair a great success – the volunteers who contributed craft products, baked goods, and other food items, as well as those who donated their time setting up, working, and cleaning up after the bazaar.  Our appreciation also to Jeff Barmen for preparing the delicious food for the bazaar’s lunch menu; and a special thank-you to chairperson Dawn Tuttle, who began organizing the event and working with the crafters weekly beginning last January.

The Bazaar was much more than a financial success: it provided an opportunity to get together weekly to enjoy good fellowship, foster closer relationships, and ultimately create an extraordinary outreach to our community.  Please join us in praising God for this dedicated, hard-working, and creative group.

~ECUMENICAL THANKSGIVING SERVICE NOVEMBER 27~

Dear Kinderhook Reformed Church Family

On November 27, the Stuyvesant Reformed Church will be hosting the Ichabod Crane Council, Ecumenical Thanksgiving Eve Service. We are planning on having a combined choir of singers from all of the churches perform a special anthem. IF ANYONE FROM YOUR CHURCH WOULD BE INTERESTED, PLEASE CONTACT ME ASAP SO I CAN HAVE ENOUGH MUSIC AVAILABLE. There will probably be one or two rehearsals involved, but dates have not yet been set.  I look forward to hearing from you soon!

                                        Yours in Christ, Marilyn Proniske,

FRIENDLY REMINDER ABOUT PEW CARDS~

Just a note to remind parents to keep their children from writing on or tearing the visitors’ cards and the prayer and announcement cards found in the slots on the back of each pew.  The visitors’ cards are purchased from a professional printer, and are expensive to replace.   Please have your children make use of the writing and coloring materials available especially for them in the back of the sanctuary.  Your attention to this request will be greatly appreciated.

HAPPY NOVEMBER BIRTHDAY!
