Drawing Near to God

Call to Worship  (Responsive)  Psalm 105:1 - 4

Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name;
make known among the nations what he has done.
Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts.
Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.

 Look to the Lord and his strength;
       seek his face always.

*Hymn of Praise to Christ #130                                      O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing

Allowing God to Shape Us

Call to Confession  1 John 1:6-10

"If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar, and his word is not in us."

  Prayer of Confession  (Unison)

Merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart and soul and mind and strength, and neither have we loved our neighbors as ourselves. Here us as we confess our sins . . .

[Moment of Silent Confession]

In your mercy, dear Lord,

. . . forgive what we have been, help us amend what we are, and direct what we shall be, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name.

Assurance of Pardon  (Responsive)  1 Peter 2:24

Here the Good News: “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”

       Thanks be to God. Amen.

Children’s Sermon and Prayer of Blessing

Father of grace and glory, transform the lives of these children through your Son, Jesus, who is the very image of your divine and holy presence.   May their lips boldly speak your praises, their voices resound with songs of worship, and their hearts remain faithful to you forever.  Amen.

Coming before God’s Open Word

Prayer Hymn for Illumination #530 (Verses 1 & 2)                                    Be Still My Soul

  Scripture Reading                                                                                    Mark 6:30-34, 53-56

Message                     “Be Still My Soul . . . Bear Patiently the Cross of Grief and Pain”

Prayer of Blessing

Silent Prayer for Those Seeking to Accept Christ as Their Savior:

"Dear Jesus, I confess that I'm a sinner, and not right with you. I repent and ask forgiveness.  I believe that you died on the cross to take my punishment and to pay the price for my sins.  I believe that you rose from death to give me new life. Wash me clean from all sin, shame, and guilt, and come into my heart as my Lord and Savior.  In your name I pray.  Amen.

Celebrating God

*Offertory Prayer (Unison)

Lord God, we give ourselves and these offerings up to your service, cheerfully submitting to the ministry of spreading the gospel of hope that is in Jesus Christ and bringing honor and glory to his name.  Amen.

Pastoral Prayer and The Lord’s Prayer

*Hymn of Thanks #374                                                                Now Thank We All Our God

My friends, may you grow in grace, and in the knowledge of Jesus Christ.

To God be the glory, now and forever, now and forever, amen. (2x)

Postlude                              Fugue in G major, op. 37                             Felix Mendelssohn

We are very pleased to welcome to the KRC staff our new sexton, Steven Green, and wish him the very best in his new position.  We also wish to thank Elize Visser, who did such an excellent job filling in as temporary sexton during the hiring process.

~NOTE OF THANKS~

Friends of Kinderhook,

Your generosity is changing lives.  Thank you for making a difference in the lives of those affected by the hurricanes.  Your gifts have helped us send immediate supplies to those in need as we prepare our long-term relief response.  Thank you for being the hands and feet of Christ.

Amanda Bruehl, Regional Coordinator of Development, RCA

Our recent Sunday offerings have trended below the $3,000 needed weekly to meet daily operating expenses. Last Sunday, our offering of $2,121 came in well under this need.  From past experience, we know that continued shortfalls result in budget deficits that become difficult, if not impossible, to make up without dipping into general reserves. Regular contributors are asked to “double up” on their giving if they miss a Sunday, and Stewardship Ministry urges that everyone give prayerful consideration to how they might adjust their giving to help keep income at a level that will meet daily operating expenses.

Stewardship Ministry will be meeting soon to review and prepare for the 2018 Budget.  Anyone interested in assisting with this essential work please contact Derick LaTorre (derick.latorre@gmail.com or 518-376-1882).  We typically meet once or twice in October.

REMEMBER TO THANK & PRAISE GOD FOR

  • Pastor Rudy Visser, our Spirit-filled minister and leader of vision, and for the Christ-centered messages God gives to Pastor each and every Sunday for the spiritual nourishment and growth of our church family.
  • the inspirational ministries of our guest preachers, Perry Jones, Tom McCrossan, John Bowen, Derek DeJager and others who lead worship at KRC from time to time.
  • those men and women who have served or are now serving our country, and those who have sacrificed their wellbeing and lives for the peace & liberty we enjoy.
  • for the happy news that Amy Deweerd has published a children's book entitled Scooter and Sophie, a story about Kinderhook Farm. The book was offered on Amazon and also at a signing recently at the Cross Eyed Owl gift shop. 50% of the profits from the signing was donated to Rise Against Hunger.
  • all those of KRC's family and friends who volunteer their time, talent, and energy so generously and so selflessly to the various ministries and programs of our church, and who often do this quietly behind-the-scenes with little notice or recognition.
  • His provision for all of our basic life needs, and the wonderful ways God shows His love to us, especially during difficult times.
